To Prospective New Members

As the school year approaches the WWU Equestrian officers are already busy at work getting ready for new members. As a new member you are required to get a physical sighned by your primary care physician.
If you are very interested in joining the team, or any other sports club at Western, a good way to start would be to  get to your doctor before coming to school.
We wish you a happy rest of your summer and look forward to riding soon!

Saturday, August 9, 2014

To all prospective new members!
The WWU Equestrian Team will be present at the WWU Red Square Info Fair on September 22nd and 23rd from 11:00am-3:00pm. We will be answering questions and handing out candy, so come and say hello.

Team Feature Video: The Equestrian Connection

Here's a wonderful video the was filmed and produced by 3 WWU journalism students who wanted to explore the teammate relationship between a horse and rider. This video is the result of a quarter's worth of work and features team president Whitney Fleming. Enjoy!

Zones, Semi Finals Results and National Qualifiers

Hello Vikings fans! Here's an update on how our post season has gone.

Whitney Fleming and Ashley Greyell competed and Zone Championships at Stanford University. Whitney placed 6th in her Open Equitation Over Fences class and 4th in her Open Equitation on the Flat class. Ashley placed 8th in her Advanced W/T/C Equitation class.

Caitlin Johnson competed at Semi-Finals at the University of Findlay. She won reserve champion in her Novice Western Horsemanship class, qualifying her for Nationals the first weekend in May. Congratulations and we wish her luck! Check out this feature in the Western Front about her upcoming trip: http://www.westernfrontonline.net/features/article_d9d599ae-c715-11e3-96d0-001a4bcf6878.html

Additionally, 3rd year member and team secretary Hanifah McGovern was the Zone high scorer in the Teresa L. McDonald IHSA Scholarship Challenge, qualifying her to compete in the final practicum phase at Nationals. Unfortunately, she is unable to attend and has pasted on the opportunity to the runner up.

Congratulations to all of our post season qualifiers, and be on the lookout for updates on Caitlin's trip to Nationals!

Regular Season Wrap-Up

The regular season has concluded with a double hunt seat show hosted by WSU, where we brought home reserve high point team on Sunday. WWU officially took reserve high point regional team in western and unofficially came in third in hunt seat. While we had hoped for a repeat appearance at Zones or a trip to Semifinals, we congratulate OSU and UW for great performances and can't wait to get to work with a reorganized team next year! While the team season is over, several riders are individually moving on into the post season and competing at Regionals this weekend!
Congratulations and good luck to:

English Regional Qualifiers
Advanced Walk-trot-canter
Ashley Greyell
Ali Giglio
Novice Over Fences
Casey Hampf

Western Regional Qualifers
Advanced Western Horsemanship
Hanifah McGovern
Whitney Fleming

A few riders are going straight to Zones and Semis!
Open English Fences and Open English Flat
Whitney Fleming
Novice Western Horsemanship
Caitlin Johnson

Additionally, a huge congratulations to president Whitney Fleming, who was the regions Cacchione Cup qualifier!
This award goes to the open level hunt seat rider who accumulates the most points in over fences and flat phases during the year, and sends the rider straight to Nationals to compete for the Cacchione Cup. Sadly Whitney will be unable to attend, due to an international internship she is participating in during the time of Nationals.
