Hey Everyone!

Congratulations to all of you who attended the triple Western Show at OSU last weekend!  We took home a Reserve High Point award and a High Point Award!  If you have gas receipts, you can take them into the sports club for reimbursement within the next two weeks (please note that they do not do reimbursements on Mondays).

This Thursday November 8 at 5p.m. we will be taking our team picture.  Please meet at the "Stairs to Nowhere" sculpture on the lawn outside the Communications Facility.  If you ride English, please wear breeches, tall boots, and a black top and if you ride Western, please wear jeans, boots, and a black top.  When we meet to take our picture, we will also discuss details for our trip to CWU this weekend.  Please be sure to attend!

Also, we will be placing our order for team gear soon.  When you get the email about options and pricing, please respond as soon as possible with your order and sizes.  When you get your confirmation email from Abby at Bootstrap Threads, please be sure to call and make your payment as soon as possible, as she will not begin our order until everyone has paid and we want to get our gear before Winter Break!

We hope you all are surviving midterms, and we are so proud of all of your hard work and positive attitudes at the show last weekend!  Lets bring home another High Point at CWU!

Volunteering this Weekend

We took a break from the clinic on Bainbridge Island to get our Halloween on at a nearby haunted house! This was after we were chased out by a chainsaw- it was terrifying!

Practice Schedule

Here is the lesson schedule for Fall Quarter.  It is your job to arrange a ride to practice for yourself each week.  Please note that the time listed is when your lesson starts.  Please arrive to the barn with enough time to get your horse, tack up, do your workout, and be ready to ride at your lesson time.  Also, please be considerate to your drivers and offer money for gas.  If you are unable to attend practice, please give 24 hours notice to either Coach Rachel or one of the officers.

New Members:

There will be a paperwork meeting this Tuesday October 9th at 7pm in the Communication Facility room 225.  This meeting is mandatory to join the team, as we have deadlines for paperwork that we must meet.  Please bring the following to the meeting:

-Your USHJA membership card (you will need to pay the $15 fee online)
-$30 cash (for one discipline only) or $40 cash (if you ride both disciplines)
-Your laptop if able

Returning Members:

There will be a meeting this Thursday October 11 at 7pm in the Communication Facility room 225.  Please bring any fees/paperwork that you did not bring last week.  We will take hours of who volunteered this weekend, as well as discuss some important information.  Also, you must email your class/work schedules to the team account by the meeting Thursday or you will not be added to the team roster.  We need the schedules as soon as possible so that we can coordinate practice times.  And please note that meetings are mandatory unless there is an extenuating circumstance that prohibits your attendance.  If this is the case, please be sure to give 24 hours notice that you will be unable to attend.

Tryouts and Volunteering Updates!

Hey Everyone!

New Riders:

This weekend tryouts will be held ONLY on Saturday October 6th at 10am.  This will be for both English and Western riders.  There is a $10 fee per discipline.  You will learn more about this at the new member meeting tomorrow evening (6pm in the Wade King Rec Center Conference Room).  See you all there!

Current Members:

This weekend we are volunteering at the Horse Expo at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds!  Alexa has sent an email with an Excel spreadsheet of when you have signed up to volunteer, so be sure to check your emails!  It is your job to coordinate carpools, please be sure to arrive early so that you are ready to start your shift on time!

We also have the amazing opportunity to have a booth at the Expo!  Thank you so much to Maryjo for being such a great supporter of our team!  

We will be having an all-member meeting next week.  It will most likely take place next Tuesday October 9th, time and place to be determined.  If you did not have your paperwork or IHSA fee at the last meeting, please bring it to the meeting Tuesday!

We have a few more upcoming events, more info to come:

October 13th and 14th we will volunteer at the WESNIP garage sale.  This is something we did last year as well and it was a lot of fun!  We will be sending out a list of who signed up for which date/time slots soon, so be sure to check your email regularly!

October 20th and 21st we have the opportunity to attend an English Clinic on Bainbridge Island with Molly Bogardus, Whitney and Claire's trainer.  We worked with her last year and it was so helpful and so much fun!  There are opportunities to ride on the flat or over fences.  Contact Whitney if you would like to attend and have not yet signed up.  Details on the trip as well as the cost will be coming soon!

October 28th we will volunteer at Coach Rachel's facility.  This will be an opportunity to give back to Rachel, who has helped us so much!  We will be cleaning the facility, cleaning and organizing tack, and painting the jump standards that Whitney made for us this summer!  There will be a potluck to follow!  This will tentatively take place at 1pm, but there will be more details on that, as well as signing up to bring food, coming soon.

I know this is a lot of information to take in, we just wanted to give you all plenty of notice so you can put the information on your calendars!  We will discuss all of this at the next meeting and as these event dates approach!

Volunteer Opportunity!

Hey everyone!  Sorry for the late notice but there is a volunteer opportunity for tomorrow, Saturday September 29th to help set up for the Northwest Washington Horse Expo that is taking place next weekend.  If you are available to volunteer, it will be taking place from 9am to 12pm at the Northwest Washington Fair in the horse barn (where we have our show).  If you are able to come, please text Alexa!

Also, there are a few more reminders before the meeting next Tuesday.  In addition to your printed USHJA membership card and printed and signed IHSA individual application and fee, you will also need to bring your filled out and signed Student Driver Agreement and Hold Harmless form, both of which can be found here: http://www.wwu.edu/campusrec/sportclubresources.shtml

Failure to bring these items will result in your inability to show at the first competition pertaining to your discipline.  Also note that we are taking attendance at every team-related event this year. If you fail to attend the meeting Tuesday OR do not give us 24 hours notice as to why you are not attending, you will not have priority to show and further consequences may result.

Update: First Meeting

The Returning Member Meeting will take place Tuesday October 2 at 6:30p.m. in Communication Facility room 105.  Please remember to bring the following:

-A printed copy of your USHJA card (if you ride English)
-A printed and signed copy of your IHSA Individual Membership Application
-Your IHSA application fee in cash ($30 for one discipline, $40 if you ride both)

Also, please remember to send Rachel and Alexa your class/work schedules as soon as possible so we can organize practice schedules.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2012-2013 WWU Equestrian Team season, we hope everyone enjoyed their summer breaks!  

New Members: 

Welcome to the team, we look forward to getting to know all of you throughout the year!  The New Member Informational Meeting will take place Thursday October 4th from 6pm to 8pm in Wade King Recreation Center Conference Room.  Please note, you will need your student ID card to enter the Rec Center.  During this meeting, we will give you a rundown of what it is like to be on the team and what to expect.  Mandatory try-outs/evaluations will take place the weekend of October 6-7 with English taking place one day and Western on the other (times to be determined and confirmed at the meeting).  If you have friends who are interested in joining the team, please pass this information along!  Good luck on your first day of classes and we'll see you all next Thursday!

Returning Members: 

Please renew your IHSA membership and print your application to bring to our first meeting (date and time to be determined).  If you ride Hunt Seat, you will also need to renew your USHJA membership, pay the $15 application fee, and bring a print-out of your new membership card to the meeting as well.  There is more information on how to do this in the email that you should be receiving soon.  

The team due for this year is $250 which can be paid at the glass office in the Rec Center.  Checks should be made out to WWU Equestrians.  The account should be set up by October 1st so you can bring your checks by anytime after that.  Also, please bring cash to the first meeting to pay for your IHSA individual membership fee.  This is $30 if you will be riding one discipline only or $40 if you will ride both.  

Lastly, please send your school/work schedules to Rachel and Alexa as soon as possible, so we can begin to organize the practice schedules.  

You will receive an email when we have a date and time set for the first meeting and the information will be updated on the calendar as well.  Have a good first day back to school!
